1. A borough of southwest-central England on the Severn River west-northwest of London. On the site of the Roman city Glevum, it was the Saxon capital of Mercia and is today a market town and industrial center. Population: 123,000.
2. A city of northeast Massachusetts on Cape Ann and the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Boston. Its sheltered harbor has been used by fishing fleets for three centuries. Population: 30,600.
