Any of a group of polysaccharides with high molecular weight that contain amino sugars and often form complexes with proteins. Also called mucopolysaccharide.

glycosaminoglycan  (glks--mn-glkn)
Any of a group of polysaccharides with high molecular weight that contain amino sugars and often form complexes with proteins. Heparin is a glycosaminoglycan. Also called mucopolysaccharide.

Three weeks before she sought treatment, the patient reported receiving multiple intradermal microinjections in her face and neck for cosmetic purposes (mesotherapy) with an unlicensed product consisting of a solution of glycosaminoglycans.
Additional findings from the extension study have been generally consistent with results seen in both the Phase 1 trial and the double-blind portion of the Phase 3 trial: statistically significant reductions in liver size and in the excretion of urinary glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), the carbohydrate substances that accumulate in patients with MPS I.
These new hydrogels are made from complex sugars called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) that are normally found in the protein-containing gel, or extracellular matrix, that surrounds animal cells.
