We observed preliminary differences in first form male gonopod structure, branchiostegal tubercle presence, chelae shape, size of first form males, and pigmentation (Simon unpubl. nbsp;Cylindroilus punctatus spends several minutes rhythmically moving structures called gonopods, essentially modified legs, inside the female before withdrawing them, filling them with sperm, and reinserting them. In my previous work on Pseudotremia (Lewis 2000) I followed the terminology concerning gonopod structures established by Shear (1972). |
