| The chief constable of the Greater Manchester Police refuses to use speed cameras as a revenue engine, declaring that it alienates the public, and instructs officers to focus on serious crime. Clive Wolfendale, Assistant Chief Constable, North Wales Police, gave the keynote address in Welsh, although he had only moved to the area from Greater Manchester three years ago. Two more came from the bordering Cheshire districts of Knutsford and Wilmslow, while six came from the present day Greater Manchester districts of Hyde, Bury, Stockport, Rochdale and Bolton. |
