A pale green, pink, brown, or black garnet, Ca3Al2(SiO4)3, occurring alone or as a constituent of the common garnet.

[German Grossularit, from New Latin Grossulria, former genus of gooseberry (from the color of some garnets), from French groseille, gooseberry, from Old French grosele, of Germanic origin; akin to Middle Dutch kroes, curled.]

But there are localities famous for mineral growth right here in Canada, one of them being the Jeffrey Mine in Quebec's Shipton Township, famous for prehnite and the beautiful grossular crystal, a variety of garnet.
In one area extensive zones of grossular garnet as well as tremolite and magnetite are present over 2 km of strike and it is anticipated that other similar alteration zones exist in the area.
