Ham·a·dan  (hm-dn, -dän)
A city of western Iran west-southwest of Tehran. An ancient city, it was captured by Alexander the Great in 330 b.c. and later ruled by Seleucid kings, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs (after a.d. 645). Population: 410,000.
