Rem·brandt van Rijn or Rem·brandt van Ryn  (rmbrnt vän rn, -bränt) 1606-1669.
Dutch painter whose works are unmatched in their portrayal of subtle human emotions. His masterpieces include historical and religious scenes, group portraits, such as The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp (1632) and The Night Watch (1642), and a series of self-portraits.
