Hearst  (hûrst), William Randolph 1863-1951.
American newspaper and magazine publisher. Beginning with the San Francisco Examiner in 1887, he built the world's largest publishing empire, comprising 28 major newspapers. A passionate collector, he displayed many of his acquisitions in San Simeon, his ornate California estate.
