2. A piece of armor, usually made of metal, designed to protect the head.
3. Botany The hood-shaped sepal or corolla of some flowers.

Although helmet shells appear to be the major focus in the purchase of a helmet, you cannot overlook the significance of the helmet's infrastructure.
