Here director Richard Eyre (``Iris'') and writer Patrick Marber (``Closer'') had two choices -- continue to play it straight or go for high camp. It's grim stuff, to be sure, filmed with impressive Canadian austerity by director Thorn Fitzgerald (The Hanging Garden), who nevertheless manages to deliver some high camp to the proceedings just when the film needs it most. In fact, campaign advertising, from high drama to high camp, may be the best thing to come out of the American political system. |
