Tykocinski (2001) describes retroactive pessimism as a form of hindsight bias in which people limit the disappointment they feel following some undesirable outcome by lowering their estimate of how likely the desirable outcome was and raising their estimate of how likely the unwanted outcome was.
7) Hindsight bias is strengthened by "counterfactual thinking," the creation of what-if scenarios.
