A disease caused by the inhalation of spores of the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum, most often asymptomatic but occasionally producing acute pneumonia or an influenzalike illness and spreading to other organs and systems in the body.

We report the first indigenous case of disseminated histoplasmosis in Taiwan diagnosed by histopathology of bone marrow, microbiologic morphology, and PCR assay of the isolated fungus.
With prolonged suppression of immune function, we began to see new additional "opportunistic" infections including Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Mycobacterium avium intracellulare (MAI), Candida Esophagitis, Histoplasmosis, Toxoplasmosis, and Cryptosporidiosis.
