John Ringo provides a fantastic tale that will elate sub-genre readers, but also fascinate historiographers with the thought provoking look at history.
The professional historian concentrates on a minute examination of documents, and, when remoter periods are concerned, on reports of earlier historiographers and historians, and corroborative archeological evidence.
The "new history" has had many effects, Shlaim pointed out: (1) it has spurred on critical teaching in Israel; (2) it has enabled ordinary Israelis to comprehend the Arab/Palestinian position; (3) it has provided Arabs with a relatively objective rendering of the conflict's history (especially as most Arab archives are not accessible for research); and (4) it has provided impetus for Palestinian historiographers to question their narratives.
