A range of the eastern Alps in southern Austria near the Italian border. Grossglockner, 3,799.4 m (12,457 ft), is the highest peak.

Nestled in a valley in the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern - and just a few miles from stunning imperial spa town Bad Gastein - it was like I'd died and gone to pampering heaven.
Hohe Tauern National Park One of the last natural wilderness areas in Europe, this park is well known for its flora and fauna.
Other classic alpine excursions within reach are the two mountain reservoirs in the shadow of the Kitzsteinhorn, trips along the Grossglockner Hochalpen-strasse, which crosses the Hohe Tauern Mountains to the south, and the magnificent Krimml waterfalls to the west.
