In an earlier news release, Fischer-Watt had noted that the silver values found to-date, in the near-surface oxidized portions of the Mercedes vein, were in a silver chloride mineral called cerargyrite, or horn silver.
Horn silver is a silver chloride mineral that is often found overlying sulfide silver deposits in arid regions such as the Mercedes location.
In his book, White Hills, published in 1982, Mohave County historian Roman Malach explained that White Hills referred to a group of mines very rich in silver, especially horn silver, also known as chloride silver.
