Kerguelen Islands

Ker·gue·len Islands  (kûrg-ln, -ln)
A French-administered island group in the southern Indian Ocean southeast of South Africa. The largest island, Kerguelen, was discovered by a French navigator in 1772 and is used mainly as a research station.

Male fur seals have no parental responsibility and so forage further afield, to the neighbouring Iles Kerguelen, down the Kerguelen Plateau and along the continental shelf near Antarctica--where it is possible that they feed on krill.
