An ertapenem-resistant Escherichia coli isolate was recovered from peritoneal fluid in a patient who had been treated with imipenem/cilastatin for 10 days.
Imipenem/cilastatin (500/500 mg intravenously every 6 hours) was administered, at which time ampicillin/ sulbactam therapy was stopped.
