To the Editor: Ciguatera outbreaks usually occur in the area between 35[degrees] north and 35[degrees] south latitude, mainly in the Caribbean, Indo-Pacific islands, and the Indian Ocean (1-5) (Figure). The 1,300-gallon home contains over 50 species of corals, dozens of Indo-Pacific fish, and 1,300 pounds of rock. Therefore, she worries that this newly discovered epidemic - the first documented in reef-building algae in the Indo-Pacific - could wreak havoc on many reefs. |
