in·dri·co·there  (ndr-k-thîr)
n.
A very large extinct land mammal (Indricotherium transouralicum) of the Oligocene and Miocene epochs, related to the rhinoceros and characterized by a long neck. It is thought to be the largest and heaviest land mammal, with an estimated height up to 5.2 meters (17 feet) and weight up to 15,750 kilograms (35,000 pounds).

[New Latin Indricothrium, genus name : Russian indrik, fabulous beast in Russian folklore (probably from alteration of Old Russian inrog, unicorn : in, one; see oi-no- in Indo-European roots + rog, horn) + Greek thrion, wild beast; see treacle.]

The young indricothere encounters predators and bizarre-looking animals such as the hyaenodon, one of the top killers of the time and the size of a rhino.
30pm) goes back 25 million years to the time of the indricothere, which at seven metres in height and weighing 15 tonnes was the largest mammal to live on dry land.
