International Date Line n (Earth Sciences / Physical Geography) the line approximately following the 180° meridian from Greenwich on the east side of which the date is one day earlier than on the west Also called date line In′terna′tional Date′ Line` n. a theoretical line following approximately the 180th meridian, the regions to the east of which are counted as being one day earlier in their calendar dates than the regions to the west.
The line coinciding approximately with the anti-meridian of Greenwich, modified to avoid certain habitable land. In crossing this line there is a date change of one day. Also called date line.
