| At the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union here, officials say the immigration law is temporarily working to their advantage, but they expect illegal contractors to proliferate and limit the new edge. It was formed last month through a merger of two of the nation's oldest and most venerable unions -- the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (ACTWU). We intend to work closely with the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union and local officials to ease the impact of the shutdown and help identify suitable opportunities for employees affected. |
