Germany dropped its opposition Monday to a controversial experiment to dump iron sulphate in the South Atlantic to see if it can absorb greenhouse gases and possibly help to halt global warming.
According to a report in Nature News, the Polarstern, which set sail from Cape Town in South Africa on January 7th, is laden with 20 tonnes of iron sulphate, which it intends to dump into the Antarctic Ocean.
Mix ericaceous fertiliser, sequestered iron or iron sulphate into the planting hole.
