A river of Myanmar (Burma) flowing about 1,609 km (1,000 mi) southward to the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. It is the chief river of the country.

Marine biologist Piya, of Indian descent but American and without knowledge of any Indian language, arrives to study a shrinking population of Irrawaddy, or river dolphins.
The last few times that I've been there, I've seen maybe two Gangetic dolphins; I haven't seen any Orcaellae or Irrawaddy dolphins.
The image was brought from the Mandalay region, where it was quarried, down the Irrawaddy River to its present resting site.
