A town of northeast Texas, an industrial suburb of Dallas. Population: 196,000.

Irving, Sir Henry 1838-1905.
British Shakespearean actor whose productions, particularly those at London's Lyceum Theatre, won him the first knighthood awarded to a member of his profession (1895).

Irving, John Born 1942.
American writer. His darkly humorous novels include The World According to Garp (1978) and The Cider House Rules (1985).

Irving, Washington 1783-1859.
American writer remembered for the stories "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," contained in The Sketch Book (1819-1820).
