Isabelline wheatear, a rare visitor to Britain from the Middle East, is reputed to be named after Isabella, archduchess of Austria, who refused to wash her underwear while her husband was away at war.
They include the white pelican, normally located in Romania, the isabelline wheatear, from Greece and the East, and the tawny pipit from Spain on Anglesey.
The isabelline wheatear of fate had turned up on Carmel Head, on Anglesey, and I was stuck at Dempsey Towers, waiting for the man to come with his brushes to give our flue a good pre-winter clean.
