An arm of the Pacific Ocean on the south-central coast of Honshu, Japan. The city of Ise, near the entrance to the bay, has several ancient Shinto shrines built in a distinctive archaic style of architecture. Population: 134,000.

5 Kyodo The Environment Ministry decided Monday to set a target for cutting the total amount of nitrogen and phosphorus emissions in Tokyo Bay, Ise Bay and the Seto Inland Sea to prevent problems resulting from the waters becoming highly enriched with nutrients, ministry officials said.
Tokyo Bay, Ise Bay in central Japan, and Osaka Bay had attained 63%, 44% and 75% of environmental standards, respectively, with the rate for Ise being the worst in 10 years, the survey showed.
