Firstly, the full brand names of some products were incomplete, so readers were unable to differentiate between 'immediate release' products which are suitable to be crushed (eg Efexor[R], Isoptin[R], Sinemet[R], Tegretol[R]) from the 'slow release' products which are not suitable to be crushed (eg Efexor-XR[R], Isoptin SR[R], Sinemet CR[R] and Tegretol CR[R] respectively).
In fact, the drug verapamil, sold as the brands Calan and Isoptin, actually decreased patients' risk of worsening heart disease.
