The outfits got their first public airing at the pre-carnival Royale celebration at Huddersfield Town Hall last night , followed by the night-time J'ouvert procession through Huddersfield town centre.
The J'Ouvert, or Street Jump Up, as it is also known, featured plenty of revelry with face painting and bright costumes to accompany the soca music.
The carnival officially opened with J'ouvert - a special day for children, and thousands of youngsters hit the streets to dance along to the bands and masquerades.
