Any of several tropical water birds of the family Jacanidae, having long toes adapted for walking on floating vegetation. Also called lily-trotter.

A gibbon swings through the jungle but also walks on two legs; a jacana walks on lily pads but also dives in the water; a blue whale dives before it swims.
Ric Abraham arrived home June 21 and was surprised to find his entire street, Jacana Court in Canyon Country, closed to traffic and filled with red, white and blue balloons, yellow ribbons, American flags and Welcome Home banners.
