A 2004 South Korean study suggests Japanese horseradish can kill ulcer-causing Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
If it hadn't been for the name--wasabi is Japanese horseradish usually served as a condiment to sashimi and sushi--and a few pieces of tell-tale decoration, we might have thought we had wandered into a sports bar.
Although of the same family as the horseradish, and sometimes termed the Japanese horseradish, ordinary horseradish does not have the same health benefits as genuine wasabi, and does not contain the same active ingredients so do not confuse the two.
