The rooster's claim that Socrates "'[no] era capaz de matar una mosca, y menos un gallo,'" along with the final violent image of the story directly recalls the fly's death in "La mosca sabia": "Por la frente de jaspe de Palas Atenea resbalaba la sangre del gallo" (Alas El gallo 13).
