| To find out how these animals learn, Alex Thornton, a zoologist involved in the recent findings, set up camp in the Kalahari Desert (see map, above). The stars of this show, along with other meerkat groups living in the Kalahari Desert, took part in experiments conducted by Thornton and coworker Katherine McAuliffe to see if meerkats show some form of teaching. To test these ideas in meerkats, Thornton and McAuliffe worked with animal groups in the Kalahari Desert, including the animals now starring in the television series Meerkat Manor. |
