Russian Communist leader who ruled with Stalin and Zinoviev after the death of Lenin (1924) but was expelled as a Trotskyite (1927) and was later imprisoned (1934) and executed.

Volkogonov found a memo Lenin sent to Stalin in 1922 complaining about the financial experts he and Kamenev had taken on.
The decision was taken in deepest secrecy: when, a few days later, in a newspaper interview, Kamenev revealed Bolshevik intentions, the outraged Lenin demanded that he be expelled from the party.
