Karl·stad  (kärlstäd)
A city of southwest Sweden on Lake Vänern west of Stockholm. Chartered in 1584, it was destroyed by fire in 1865. The treaty ending the union of Norway and Sweden was signed here in 1905. Population: 82,900.

Albany, New York, USA and The Packaging Greenhouse AB, owned by The Paper Province Association of Sweden, have entered a three-year agreement in which Albany will conduct pilot paper machine trials at the Greenhouse pilot plant in Karlstad, Sweden.
To determine whether high concentrations of phthalates in dust correlate with allergies, Carl-Gustaf Bornehag of Karlstad University in Sweden and his colleagues visited the homes of 400 Swedish children.
The Metso foundry in Karlstad specializes in large, hand-molded cast pieces such as Yankee cylinders for tissue paper machines, components for wind turbines and diesel engine blocks.
