A river of western Iran flowing about 724 km (450 mi) west and south into the Shatt al Arab on the Iraq border.

Arvand Roud (known as the Shatt al-Arab in Arabic), a strategic, 200-kilometers-long (120-mile) extension of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Iraq, and Karoun River in Iran, runs between Iraq and Iran, separating the two countries by a width of 400 to 1,500 meters before flowing into the Persian Gulf.
Arvand Roud (known as the Shatt al-Arab in Arabic), a strategic 200 kilometers long (120-mile) extension of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Iraq and Karoun river in Iran, runs between Iraq and Iran, separating the two countries by a width of 400 to 1,500 meters (437 to 1,640 yards) before flowing into the Persian Gulf.
At the centre of the dispute is the Karoun river, which this year has been completely staunched by Iran to stop its water feeding into the Shatt al-Arab just above the Iranian oil city of Abadan, local people say.
