A river of western Iran flowing about 724 km (450 mi) west and south into the Shatt al Arab on the Iraq border.

The Shatt Al Arab, which flows into the Persian Gulf, is a narrow stretch of river around 120 miles long and is fed by the Euphrates, Tigris, and Karun rivers.
Syria and Iraq both depend for drinking water, irrigation and hydroelectric power on the Euphrates and the Tigris -- which converge at Qurnah in southern Iraq where they are joined by the Karun River from Iran, to form the Shatt Al Arab, which flows into the Gulf.
