The classical dance form of Kathak traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathaks, or storytellers.
When the kathaks weren't telling a story through their abhinayas ("expressions"), the dancers slapped their bare feet on hard marble floors to create unimaginable rhythms.
