The complaint in Manhattan was filed on behalf of two residents of Glod, a village whose Gypsies were used as stand-ins for Kazakhs in the movie.
Initial reports claimed that the hostage-takers included Chechens, residents of the neighboring province of Ingushetia, Arabs, Kazakhs and Slavs.
The Kazakhs were absorbed into the Russian Empire during the 18th century and the Khanates (autonomous rulers) were dissolved during the 19th century.
