[Dutch : probably the name Kees (nickname for Cornelis, Cornelius) + hond, dog (from Middle Dutch; see kwon- in Indo-European roots).]

When my 14-year-old Keeshond died of old age a few years ago, I discovered with horror that a peaceful death was not to be her lot.
Linda Salmon, the owner of Moses, an 11-year-old Keeshond dog, can relate to people whose pets don't deal well with fireworks.
