The extremely low (but increasing) numbers of Kemp's ridley turtles warrant this extraordinary effort--as well as the continued efforts of conservationists at the start of the journey, when the hatchlings begin that trek from beach to ocean. Morreale has also tracked migratory patterns for loggerhead turtles and Kemp's ridley turtles that summer off the coast of New York. Workers from the Kemp's Ridley Recovery Project are patrolling the beaches for nesting females. |
