WHILE STEVIE WONDER sang "Happy Birthday" to Nelson Mandela miles away in New York where high-profile film and music stars gathered to celebrate the 91st birthday of the man the Independent (UK) newspaper described as "our planet's last living legend", Madiba, as he is fondly called, spent the day with those closest to him: family and surviving anti-apartheid stalwarts including former Zambian president, the iconic Kenneth Kaunda (pictured below in the second row, next to Mandela).
