Bakh·ta·ran  (bäkt-rän, bätä-) Formerly Ker·man·shah (kr-mänshä, -shô)
A city of western Iran west-southwest of Tehran. Founded in the fourth century a.d., it was later a frontier fortress against the Ottoman Turks. Population: 795,000.
