1. Any of several trees or shrubs of the genus Fortunella, having small, edible, orangelike fruit.
2. The fruit of these plants, having an acid pulp and a thin, edible rind. It is the smallest of the citrus fruits.

When Held started his floral business 13 years ago, he included fruits such as champagne grapes in his arrangements and then expanded the concept to incorporate all kinds of fruits and vegetables -- such as kumquats, artichokes, cherries, strawberries, lemons, limes, crab apples, persimmons, pomegranates and pears.
Tangerines, clementines, pummelo (Asian grapefruit), Oro Blanco grapefruit, kumquats, and Moro oranges (with deep red interiors) are seasonal additions to the citrus menu.
For the candied kumquats: In a pot, combine kumquats and simple syrup; simmer over low heat until kumquats are somewhat translucent.
