A historical region and former duchy of southern Latvia between the Baltic Sea and the Western Dvina River. It passed to Russia in 1795 and was largely incorporated into Latvia in 1918.

septembril 1563 loetletud endise ordumeistri, tollal juba Kuramaa hertsogi Gotthard Kettleri (12) poolel voidelnud moisameeste rittmeistreid: Heinrich linnusekrahv Dohna (langes peatselt rootslaste kuulist), Heinrich Vietinghof (Fietinghof) ja Gerhard Nolde (13), kellest kaks viimast olid liivimaalased, Dohna aga Ida-Preisi hertsogkonna mojuka suguvosa esindaja.
Puudlus oiguse uhtlustamisele Balti kubermangudes ilmneb minu hinnangul koige selgemalt Liivimaa talurahva seaduse (LTS) karistusoiguslike seaduste (vastavalt ETS, STS, KTS) kehtivusala laiendamises nii Eestimaa, Saaremaa kui ka Kuramaa oiguspurkonda.
