Lab·ra·dor  (lbr-dôr)
The mainland territory of Newfoundland, Canada, on the northeast portion of the Labrador Peninsula. Its coastline was visited by Norse seamen as early as the tenth century. The area later became a possession of the Hudson's Bay Company and was claimed by Quebec until 1927, when it was awarded to Newfoundland.
