The high molecular weight PLA with relative high mechanical properties can be chemically synthesized by direct polycondensation of lactic acid as well as ring opening polymerization of lactide.
Purac, which produces lactide monomers, the precursors of PLA, as well as medical grades of PLA, is providing Synbra with polymerization know-how, catalysts, and monomer.
Volume one contains 10 chapters which cover the structure and synthesis of materials, including renewable plastics, biodegradable foams, lactide copolymers, biodegradable polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites, edible films and coatings based on protein resources, green polymers, polyphosphazenes, chitin and chitosan derivatives, and polyanhydrides.
