Chau·tau·qua Lake  (sh-tôkw, ch-)
A lake of southwest New York. The Chautauqua movement of adult education, offering a range of cultural, religious, and recreational activities, was founded in 1874 at the resort village of Chautauqua on the northwest shore of the lake.
