Often seen as crucial to Australia's national identity today, the phenomenon of larrikinism emerged in the 1860s.
In the Australian case, these would include events like the Eureka Stockade, Gallipoli and the Kokoda Track; images such as those of the Australian bush encapsulated in the poetry and writings of Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson; and a national 'character' or ethos based on such things as mateship, larrikinism and egalitarianism.
But in the mid 1970s, tectonic culture was transformed, largely by Peter Corrigan of Edmund and Corrigan, who brought a sense of Irish larrikinism, disrespect for the po-faced and a continual questioning of what architecture is about and what it can do.
