SAUSAGES made especially for the National Eisteddfod to promote Meirionnydd's local produce, contained laverbread - traditionally associated with South Wales.
Not all that far away, in Cwmbach Road, is The Farrier's Arms, a pub/restaurant where Anna Brown of Welsh television fame (if that is not an oxymoron) cooks excellent Welsh food such as cockles and laverbread, hot oysters with creamed leeks, an outstanding short pastry crust over a tasty beef stew and a stunningly well-made Hollandaise sauce that swims around the steamed, locally farmed sea bass.
A IT'S not lavabread but laverbread - pronounced lah-ver - so it's nothing to do with volcanoes.
