Lee Kuan Yew

(lē′ kwän′ yo͞o′) 1923-2015.
Singaporean politician. He helped negotiate his country's independence from Britain (1959-1963) and served as the first prime minister of the autonomous state (1959-1963) and the independent Republic of Singapore (1965-1990).
